Planning Your Plastic Kit Build
Modern plastic kits range from simple snap-fit models with a handful of parts to complex multimedia kits with hundreds of injection-moulded pieces, photo-etch frets, resin details and turned metal barrels. Planning your build helps you gather the right supplies and set realistic time expectations.
Adhesives are a key consideration. Polystyrene cement (like Tamiya Extra Thin or Revell Contacta) works by welding the plastic together and is ideal for standard kit parts. CA (superglue) is needed for resin and photo-etch. Knowing how much you need prevents mid-build trips to the hobby shop.
Build time varies enormously depending on your skill level, the detail you add, and whether you use aftermarket upgrades. A basic 1:72 aircraft might take 10-20 hours, while a fully detailed 1:35 diorama with figures can easily exceed 100 hours. Our estimators help you plan your hobby time realistically.
