Paint Brand Mixing Calculator — Colour Matching
Find paint matches and mixing ratios across Citadel, Vallejo, Tamiya, AK and Mr.Color.
How We Calculate This
This calculator uses a database of common military and model colours with equivalent paints across major hobby paint brands. It provides the closest matching paint or mixing recipe with a colour accuracy estimate.
Ratios are by volume. Always mix small test batches first and compare against references under natural light.
Frequently Asked Questions
You can mix within the same paint type (acrylic with acrylic, enamel with enamel). Do not mix acrylics with enamels or lacquers. Vallejo and Citadel (both acrylics) can be mixed. Tamiya acrylics use alcohol-based solvent, so mixing with water-based acrylics may not work well.
The accuracy percentage indicates how close the mix is to a reference colour. 90%+ is a very good match. Military colours vary between references, so a range of 85-95% is realistic. Always test on a scrap piece first.
Generally 1:1 paint to thinner for most acrylics through a 0.3mm nozzle. Lacquers like Mr.Color work best at 1:1.5 or even 1:2. Start thinner and add paint if it spatters.
