Scale Tree Calculator

Calculate model tree dimensions for realistic scale based on real tree species and your model scale.

How We Calculate This

Scale Conversion

Model dimension (mm) = Real dimension (m) × 1000 ÷ Scale ratio

So an English oak at 20m in 1:76 (OO) works out at 20 × 1000 ÷ 76 ≈ 263mm tall. Drop the scale to 1:148 (N) and the same tree is only 135mm.

The preset figures are typical mature heights, not maxima, taken from the Woodland Trust A–Z of British Trees: English oak ≈20m (can reach 20–40m), silver birch ≈15m (up to ~30m), Scots pine ≈25m (up to ~35m), horse chestnut ≈25m (up to ~40m). They reflect a mature specimen in open growing conditions rather than a record-breaker. Real trees vary considerably, so treat these as a starting point and use the Custom option for a specific tree. For a natural-looking scene, vary the heights across your trees rather than scaling them all identically.
